Bone Broth

The Elixir…IMG_3757

Full circle, we have come back to our ancestors roots of making broth to nourish, heal and feed our families for centuries! I believe we are coming full circle to finding out our food is deeply tied to better mental health and physical health. This is why I am writing this post on a website that focus’s on Mindfulness.

Our mental health is deeply tied to our the health of our gut! Hence why probiotics are valuable to a health gut. However, we are coming to find out our food source is better alternative then supplements to give the proper nutrients and probiotics into our digestive system.

This revived awareness that our foods is foundation to a better quality of life from growing our food, maintaining and tending to the gardens, to back to the kitchen to cook delicious home cooked meals.

With our busy schedules, we have come up with some great ideas to get quality nourishment into our daily food by juicing or cooking up quick foods we can freeze to add to a bowl of broth or stir in some Soffritto (onions, garlic, celery, carrot and parsley plus I add bell pepper with some chilies as well) is what I make up and then place in ice cube trays, freeze, then place in a freezer bag to pull out whenever I want to add some additional flavor to the broth or any dish.

I love to cook a large batch of Caramelized onions, make patties out them. Freeze them on some wax paper or parchment paper then store them in the freezer to pull out when desired. I love making these patties up for my son to keep in his freezer for when he makes a meal he can quickly add these to his favorite Asparagus’s dish! And for myself to add to the broth or saute into some cabbage or whatever yummy dish!

Bone broth is a wonderful way to nourish and heal your digestive tract and energize your body; it provides an easily digestible source of vitamins, minerals, and protein. If you’re vegetarian, you can leave out the bones and meat scraps and create a healing vegetable elixir to sip during the day.

You can also include just bones and no vegetables, if you like. This broth can be used to sip, or used in recipes for more flavorful grains, soups, and more!

Neuroscientists are starting to investigate how to manage gut bacteria to treat mood and stress-related disorders such as depression. Biologists says that the degenerative and inflammatory diseases on the rise in industrialized societies could be corrected by the use of gelatin-rich foods due to the presence of restorative amino acids such as glycine, alanine, proline, and hydroxyproline.

Bone Broth is rich in minerals that support the immune system and contains healing compounds like collagen, glutamine, glycine and proline. The collagen in bone broth heals your gut lining and reduces intestinal inflammation.

A healthy gut is the cornerstone of health. Bone broth promotes increased digestion and allows for the proper absorption of nutrients into you stomach lining.
